Discovered 1981 August 29 by A. Mrkos at Kle.
 Named in memory of James Joyce (1882-1941), Irish novelist, noted for his experimental use of language and exploration of new literary methods in large works, such as Ulysses. Gell-Mann adopted the fanciful term 'quark' from a passage in his novel Finnegans Wakes. Name suggested by J. Tichá.
